It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not
the poet who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given
us the right to a fair trial, and it is the soldier----who salutes the flag, who serves the flag and
whose coffin is draped by the flag-----who allows the protester to burn the flag.

This is Jonathan R. DePhillips, veteran of 2001-2002 "Ensuring
Freedom", Kuwait & January 2004-February 2005 "Operation Iraqi
Freedom II" Iraq.  He was an Army Specialist with the A Company
91st Engineer Brigade, 2nd Brigade Combat Team "Blackjack."
While serving 6 years in the Army...he was stationed at Fort Hood,
TX with the 1st Calvary Division and did training in Fort Irwin, CA.
He did his basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO.  I'm a very
proud Aunt who followed his military career and always keep on
top of the latest news of our armed forces during these trying
times.  I'm so very proud of him and all the troops...my heart goes
out to those serving now and who are in harm's way with the
crisis in the Middle East.  I can't say enough for our fallen heroes
and the sorrow their families have had to face.  I'm proud to be an
American and always fly the flag with dignity and honor.  Jonathan
is now a civilian(released from the Army in May 2005), adjusting
well and will be attending a state university here in PA majoring in
history.  He has met a wonderful girl who lives in TX and will
graduate from Texas A&M next May.  Bless You for your hard
work and loyalty to God, your Country and your fellow
servicemen, my hero, Jon!  Prayers as you begin your college
studies.
"Where we love is home - home that our feet may leave, but not
our hearts."   ---Oliver Wendell Holmes Sr.   (1809-1894)

My hero is my husband, Sergeant Dylan Saunders. He is in
Baghdad,  Iraq with the Alaska Army National Guard. He
has been at Camp Victory  since January 2005 and will be
there until January 2006. We have been  married since
2001 and have two little boys - Gavin (2) and Logan  (1). We
all miss him so much. He is a wonderful soldier. He takes
pride in his job and always does his best with every job he
is given.  He makes me so proud. I can't wait until he
comes home! I love him  with all my heart.
My hero is my husband, SPC Tucker Black.  Tucker is
currently serving his 2nd tour in Iraq with the 3RD ID.  He
was deployed barely 2 weeks after I gave birth to our
daughter, Emma.  Even between the miles, he has proven
to be my strength, and I strive daily to be his.  I admire his
loyalty, his dedication, and his undying optimism.  He truly
is an American, and my life is greater to have him in it.  I
love you Tucker.
Always
Lisa
This is my hero, CM2 Andy McCuiston of NMCB 24.  He left
home on Valentine's Day and is currently stationed in Iraq.
He is expected to return sometime in October.  When he
left, our first child was 4 months old.  She will turn one in
September and we are going to hold off on celebrating until
her daddy comes home.  She watches the video he made
for her and reaches for him on the screen.  She loves her
daddy-we can tell.  We pray daily for all of the men and
women serving and pray for their safe return.
Our hero is SFC Gary C. Emel who is currently serving in
Tallil Iraq with the 427th Transportation Unit.  He has been
deployed since June of 2004 and is due back home in
August of 2005.  Our five children, Andrew (who is currently
serving in the Air Force in Korea), Alyssa, Devin, Ryan, and
Heidi (pictured here) all miss him terribly but are very proud
of the job that he is doing and are looking forward to the
days when he will be home again.  We are very thankful to
all the soldiers that are away from home and the families
that we know are missing them.  The military is a big job
and it takes strong men and women to make it work.
Thank you to everyone,
We love and miss you daddy,
Your family

Mosul, Iraq. He's been gone since October, with the
exception of 2 weeks R&R to be home for the birth of our
first baby in February. Zackary & I are looking forward to his
safe return in October. We miss him a lot, but are so proud
of the work he's doing!
